DEFORMATION PROCESSING OF WIRES AND TAPES USING THE OXIDE-POWDER-IN-TUBE METHOD

摘要
Conventional deformation processes such as drawing and rolling are generally used in the fabrication of superconducting tapes produced by the OPIT method. However, it is difficult to assess the importance of variables in these processes on the performance of the final conductor. It can be shown that morphology, uniformity, density and microstructure of the oxide can be affected by deformation processing variables. Some of these effects are examined in this paper, and a qualitative description of the effects of roll pass geometry and pressing is presented. It is proposed that deformation process variables be analyzed in terms of the stresses and strains imposed during processing, so that a more fundamental understanding of these variables can be obtained.
