STUDY OF URINARY-TRACT INFECTION IN GENERAL-PRACTICE

The culture results of mid-stream specimens submitted from general practices in Edinburgh between 1 November 1976 and 30 April 1978 are presented. Three thousand three hundred and thirty-nine specimens contained > 108 organisms/1 (>105 orgs/ml). The occurrence of different bacterial species is noted and the sensitivities of some of the commoner pathogens are reported. The age and sex distribution of 2089 cases, and the distribution of the different organisms isolated are discussed. © 1979 The British Society for the Study of Infection.
