Collision strengths and oscillator strengths are calculated for Fe IX. The three configurations 3s23p6, 3s23p53d, and 3s23p54s were included in the computations. The data can be applied to the analysis of spectral lines in the solar spectrum and laboratory sources. The collision calculations were executed with the DISTORTED WAVE collision code and SUPERSTRUCTURE atomic-structure code interfaced via transformation code JAJOM. These codes were written at University College London. As reported in a previous publication, the codes were adapted to enable the adjustment of Slater parameters leading to improved energy levels and eigenvectors. The Cowan suite of atomic-structure codes was used to generate the adopted optimized parameters and also to compute oscillator strenghts. Possible application of the method to more complex atomic structures was investigated. © 1991.
