POLYMORPHISM OF AS2TE3 - STRUCTURAL STUDIES AND THERMAL-BEHAVIOR OF RHOMBOHEDRAL BETA-AS2TE3

The polymorphic behavior of As2Te3 was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. The irreversible transition enthalpy of rhombohedral beta-As2Te3 into monoclinic alpha-As2Te3 was measured (DELTA-beta --> alpha-H = - 9.6 +/- 0.4 J g-1, T-beta --> alpha = 513 K). The beta-As2Te3 is isostructural with Sb2Te3. Using the Clapeyron equation, it can be shown that the rhombohedral form is probably identical with the previously detected high pressure form.
