摘要
Surface effects during propane pyrolysis were investigated in tubular flow reactors constructed of stainless steel, low-carbon steel, or nickel. Kinetic data were obtained at reaction temperatures from 600° to 750° C., with pressures of essentially 1 atm., and space times up to 2.8 seconds. Stainless steel reactors which were treated with oxygen, hydrogen bromide, and steam and surfaces of plain low-carbon steel were very effective in promoting secondary reactions. Hydrogen sulfide and sulfur treatments “passivated” the reactor surfaces by forming a protective metal sulfide film which prevented these secondary reactions. © 1969, American Chemical Society.
