COLLABORATIVE STUDY ON THE TESTING OF RABIES IMMUNE GLOBULIN (HUMAN) BY THE MOUSE NEUTRALIZATION TEST (MNT) AND THE RAPID FLUORESCENT FOCUS INHIBITION TEST (RFFIT)

Comparative testing of rabies antibody was performed in three laboratories using the mouse neutralization test (MNT) and the rapid fluorescent focus inhibition test (RFFIT). Two different lots of rabies immune globulin were used and each lot was tested at two concentration levels. Raw data were analyzed statistically in order to determine precisely any differences between groups. Only three groups were found to be significantly different and all of these were between samples tested at different concentrations. The results of this study have shown that the MNT and RFFIT can be used interchangeably for measuring rabies antibody as long as results are reported in International Units per milliliter (i.u. ml-1). © 1979 The International Association of Biological Standardization.
