One hundred and nine samples of milk were collected in 1989-1990 from Inuit women living in Arctic Quebec. Concentrations of PCBs including coplanar congeners, polychloro dibenzo-p-dioxin (PCDDs) and polychlorodibenzofurans (PCDFs) were 2 to 10 times greater than those found in milk samples from women living in southern Quebec. Results of further analyses (pesticides and of an on-going cohort study) will be necessary before proposing any public health recommendation on diet or breast-feeding.
