摘要
Algal problems in freshwater are increasing worldwide and can affect potable water supplies, drainage channels and amenity areas. There is a need for new selective algicides for short-term control because present algicides have unacceptable side effects. The costs associated with developing and marketing new chemicals as algicides often make such development uneconomical. These costs could be greatly reduced by developing an antimicrobial compound already on the market. An outline of the approval process for aquatic herbicides is given. A regime for evaluating the algicidal activity of biocides is discussed with an example of how it was used to evaluate hydrogen peroxide. © 1990.
