EVALUATION OF THE ENERGY BARRIER FOR CARBONYL EXCHANGE IN THE HIGHLY FLUXIONAL RU-3(CO)(12) SYSTEM

C-13 spin-lattice (T-1) and spin-spin. (T-2) relaxation times of carbonyl groups measured as a function, of temperature in CD2Cl2 solution combined with the data obtained by high-resolution MAS C-13 NMR in the solid state have been used to evaluate the activation energy of the intramolecular exchange process in Ru-3(CO)(12). An independent evaluation, of the activation energy by line shape analysis of the broadened single C-13 NMR resonance at very low temperature in. Freon-22 solution substantially agrees with the value obtained by T-1 and T-2 measurements.
