GAMMA-RAYS FOLLOWING HEAVY-ION BOMBARDMENT OF LIGHT NUCLEI

A systematic study of gamma rays from thick targets between 12C and 28Si bombarded with 10B, 12C, 14N and 16O ions of 16-30 MeV has been performed with Ge(Li) and NaI(Tl) detectors. Gamma lines from high-spin states populated by the reactions (HI, pn), (HI, αp), (HI, 2p) and (HI, 2α) dominate in almost all cases. The excitation functions of the 16O(14N, pn), 16O(14N, αp) and 16O(14N, 2p) reactions measured from 16 to 30 MeV can be fairly well understood within the statistical model. The relative intensities of protons, neutrons and alpha particles emitted from the compound nucleus depend strongly on the bombarding energy, which defines the spin distribution given to the nucleus. © 1969.
