摘要：

This article examines factors influencing household types in India in the light of the data collected from three West Bengal villages. The household types in the three villages are identified and compared with those reported in earlier studies conducted in India in general and West Bengal in particular. The variables which are generally considered to be predictive of household types - age, land ownership, farm size, occupation, caste, literacy, urban contact, and media exposure - are then related to the household types in the three villages and these relationships are examined and compared with those of the earlier studies. Finally, the variables with independent relationships to household types are identified and their additive effect on the incidence of joint family households is evaluated. -from Authors
