ABSORPTION OF LIQUIDS BY RUBBER VULCANIZATES

摘要
The effect of liquid absorption by rubber vulcanizates (swelling) can lead to very large reductions in both the rupture stress and the rupture strain. These reductions occur because the solvent reduces the glass transition temperature of the elastomer. The extent to which a solvent lowers Tg depends, among other things, on the quantity of solvent imbibed. In this paper it is shown that under some restrictions, it is possible to estimate the quilibrium absorption of liquids from a knowledge of the chemical structure of the polymer and the solvent. © 1979.
