REAL-TIME NEUTRON-SCATTERING STUDY OF PHASE-TRANSITIONS BETWEEN MODULATED STRUCTURES OF TMATC-ZN

摘要
The kinetics of phase transformations in TMATC-Zn ([N(CH3)4]2ZnCl6) has been studied using time-resolved triple axis spectroscopy. Satellite spectra were recorded as a function of time during temperature cycling across the 1/3 <-> 2/5 transition as well as the 2/5 <-> incommensurate transition. At both transformations, a definite switching between two well defined states is observed rather than a continuous shift of wave vectors. No intermediate states are found. At the lock-in transition, the coexistence region of the commensurate (2/5) phase and the incommensurate one is enlarged up to several K under dynamical conditions.
