In this study, the motional heterogeneity in the vulcanized NBR/PVC blends was studied by proton (1H) pulsed NMR. By measurements of the spin-spin relaxation time T2 and spin-lattice relaxation time T1, the degree of mixing of the PVC molecules in the NBR matrix was analyzed in terms of the difference in their molecular mobility. Furthermore, the spatial inhomogeneity in the blends was semiquantitatively evaluated by spin diffusion experiments using the Goldman-Shen pulse sequence. From the results of the pulsed-NMR measurements, the state of the molecular mixing of the PVC molecules in NBR was discussed in the NMR sense with a detailed understanding of their compatibility, which may complement the results obtained by other analytical methods.
