Unusual temperature dependence of the magnetic moment in URu2Si2

摘要
The influence of the sample quality on the magnetic properties of the heavy-fermion superconductor URu2Si2 has been studied by elastic neutron scattering. Two single crystals prepared under identical conditions received different heat treatments. The as-grown crystal shows an unusual temperature dependence of the magnetic Bragg peak intensity. The annealed sample behaves normally. The low-temperature magnetic moment is identical for the two samples, showing that the small moment of 0.023(3)mu(B) is intrinsic. By varying the instrumental resolution, we show that the ordered moment as well as the limited correlation length (200-400 angstrom) are of static origin. The finite correlation length appears related to defects.
