摘要
Observations of the emission of the atomic carbon line at 2478 Å have been made in shock-heated mixtures of CO, CH4 and CF4 in Ar and Ne. A lower bound for the Einstein transition probability is found to be1-5×107±30 per cent sec-1, which is equivalent to an absorption f-number of 0-04±30 per cent. The mechanism of excitation is discussed and it is concluded that free electrons are probably an important collision partner. © 1969.
