THE RELAXATION OF STRUCTURAL FLUCTUATIONS IN A LATTICE MODEL OF A SIMPLE LIQUID

We report on dynamic Monte Carlo simulation studies of the extent and dynamics of structural fluctuations in the liquid phase of the fee lattice gas with nearest-neighbor interactions. The structural relaxation exhibited nonexponential decay characterized by two time scales, a result in qualitative agreement with relaxation observed in colloidal suspensions. The time scale of the slow component increased more rapidly with decreasing temperature than that of the faster component. The origin of me slow component was traced to the presence of relatively long lived low-energy domains. The fluctuating cluster model was proposed to model the structural relaxation. © 1994.
