Disposal of special wastes is now generally regarded as an important public duty in the struggle to obtain protection of the environment. Incineration has proved to be an excellent method for the disposal of organic industrial wastes. The strict regulations, however, with which such a plant has to comply have caused a series of intricate technological problems. It has been shown in this paper, in relation to the design of the HIM plant, that these problems can be satisfactorily solved by basing designs on modern technology, building wherever possible upon the experience gained in other similar plants already in operation. Construction of the HIM plant has now begun and its commissioning is scheduled for the late autumn of 1980. © 1979.
