FERROMAGNETISM AND A NEW TYPE OF FERRIMAGNETISM IN OXYGEN SPINELS

摘要
The spinels Cu(+)[Mg(0.5)Mn(1.5)(4+)]O(4) and Li(0.5)Zn(0.5)[Li(0.5)Mn(1.5)(4+)]O(4) become ferromagnetic below 57 degrees and 22 degrees K respectively, at lease in fields larger than 2 kOe. This is ascribed to ferromagnetic 90 degrees Mn(4+)-O(2)Mn(4+) interactions. The spinel Cu(+)[Ni(0.5)(2+)Mn(1.5)(4+)]O(4) becomes ferrimagnetic below 150 degrees K, due to an antiferro-magnetic coupling between the crystallographically ordered Ni(2+) and Mn(4+) ions.
