摘要
Pythium sp. "group G" is an important damping-off pathogen of safflower in southern Alberta. Molecular evidence suggests that the safflower isolate of Pythium sp. "group G" (isolate BR583) is a divergent form of Pythium ultimum. Artificial inoculations showed that safflower, canola, dry pea, sugarbeet, lettuce, cucumber, muskmelon, spinach, and marigold are highly susceptible to isolate BR583. Sunflower, carrot, and tomato are moderately susceptible, but dry bean is resistant to this pathogen. Damping-off of canola, sugarbeet, safflower, and dry pea occurred in soils collected from two safflower fields near Lethbridge, Alberta and the organisms isolated from diseased seedlings all belonged to Pythium sp. "group G."
