Oxygen bomb calorimetry was used to determine the energy of combustion of Ce2O3. The enthalpy change for the reaction Ce2O3-hexagonal + ½O2 = 2CeO2 was [formula omited] = -91.05 ± 0.16 kcal., which leads to a value for the enthalpy of formation of Ce2O4 of [formula omited] =-429.31 = 0.68 kcal. per mole. © 1968, American Chemical Society.
