摘要
The general chemical-structural formula for an oxide garnet is left brace A//3 right brace left bracket B//2 right bracket (C//3)O//1//2; the full unit cell contains eight formula units. This formula notation designates the cation co-ordination to oxygen about the A, B and C ions of eight, six and four, respectively. The Y-Al garnet combination is important as an advanced optical material; although there are some data on the substitution of gallium and iron, little is known about substitution of chromium, manganese and vanadium. These substitutions are described and the substituted garnet-structured phases are characterized by X-ray diffraction and electron microanalysis.
