摘要
The ionic transport properties of β‐alumina enable it to be bonded to many metals by a low‐temperature, field‐assisted process. Adherence mechanisms appear to be similar to those operating in field‐assisted glass‐to‐metal seals, with some differences arising from the crystalline nature of the solid electrolyte. Surface finish of the β‐alumina plays a prominent role in determining adherence. Although good bonding was achieved with all samples, the relatively poor surface conditions resulted in aluminum being the only metal to produce hermetic seals. Copyright © 1979, Wiley Blackwell.
