摘要
The formation of negative ion vacancies, and hence of F centres, by radiationless electron hole recombination is discussed. The energy available In the recombination is sufficient for defect production in most alkali halides. The mechanism explains the effects of temperature and impurities on F centre production rates, as well as the formation of F centres by ultra violet irradiation.
