摘要
This paper discusses an approach to total integration of design and manufacturing activities based on computer-internal models of products, manufacturing environments and their processes. Instead of using conventional engineering drawings, it is vitally necessary to be able to deal with comprehensive models of products and processes, which are computer compatible, and can be dynamically generated and manipulated in accordance with the evolution of design and manufacturing information. We shall call such models as product models. As shape information is important for description of machine products, required functionality of geometric modelling is first surveyed, and a new method for shape description is proposed. Then a general framework for product modeling is discussed, which can capture all the technological information necessary for design and manufacturing operations. Some examples of application are shown. © 1990.
