摘要
The body pool, half-life, turnover-time and carnitine content in muscle were determined in normal, altoxan-diabetic and alloxan-diabetic, insulin treated rats. The carnitine body pool and carnitine muscle content were greatly decreased in alloxan-diabetic rats, whereas the body pool and muscle carnitine content in insulin-treated alloxan-diabetic rats approached a value close to that of normal rats. The decrease in the carnitine body pool of alloxan diabetic rats was accompanied by an increase in the conversion of carnitine to β-methylcholine. The half-life and turnover time were also decreased in diabetic rats. The results indicated that the lowered body pool of carnitine in alloxan-diabetic rats is primarily due to a decrease in the turnover time and increase in metabolism of carnitine. © 1969.
