KINETICS OF PASSIVATION OF LEAD IN PHOSPHATE SOLUTIONS

摘要
A kinetic study on passivation of lead in phosphate media was made by potential and impedance measurements. In pH's > 2.01, the potential gets nobler with time, indicating passivation of the lead electrode. This was confirmed from measurements of the relative change in the thickness of the passive layer which was found to increase with time following a direct logarithmic law. The magnitude of the rate of growth of the layer as well as the discontinuity in this rate were correlated with the mechanism of film growth. Layers grown in the pH range 2.01-4.60 are adherent and thin, whereas those formed in pH's >4.6 are thicker and porous. © 1990.
