Fluorescence properties of Ce3+ ions in YAlO3 crystals have been studied in the VUV, UV and visible spectral ranges. Ce3+ fluorescence emission and excitation spectra are influenced by the Ce3+ doping concentration in YAlO3 and codoping with Nd3+ and Cr3+ ions. Two nonequivalent Ce3+ centers (sites) are present in YAlO3 crystals, the main fluorescence emission band peaking in the UV (lambda(p) approximately 370 nm), the minor one in the green (lambda(p) approximately 500 nm). Radiative energy transfer from the main Ce3+ nonequivalent centres to the minor Ce3+ ones in YAlO3 crystals was observed for the first time.
