The energy of combustion of high-purity uranium in fluorine to form uranium hexafluoride was measured in a bomb calorimeter. The standard enthalpies of formation of crystalline and gaseous UF6, ΔHfo(UF6, c, 298.15 K) = -(2197.7 ± 1.8) kJ mol-1 and ΔHfo(UF6, g, 298.15 K) = -(2148.1 ± 1.8) kJ mol-1, were derived. These values are approximately 11 kJ mol-1 more negative than previous measurements based on fluorine calorimetry. © 1979.
