摘要
Laboratory studies of metal-sulfite systems show that such compounds probably do not play any significant role in stabilizing S (IV) in droplet solutions in the atmosphere. Detailed investigation of the Fe(III)-S(IV) systems definitely established that rapid redox reactions occur and under some conditions the S may be quantitatively converted to dithionate. The thermometric titration method for determining sulfite is discussed from the perspective of the experimental results; apparently the method determines Fe(II), some complex or some as yet unidentified species. [This study is relevant to air pollution.].
