THE OXIDATION OF NI(II)-FE(II) HYDROXIDES IN CHLORIDE-CONTAINING AQUEOUS-MEDIA

摘要
The oxidation of ferrous-nickelous hydroxide in chloride-containing aqueous media gives for values of P = Fe/Ni greater than one-third, an hydroxychloride isomorphous to Green Rust 1, 3Fe(OH)(2) . Fe(OH)(2)Cl . nH(2)O, where Ni2+ ions substitute for Fe2+ ions. At P = 1/3, stoichiometry is reached and 3Ni(OH)(2) . Fe(OH)(2)Cl . nH(2)O is stable to further oxidation. X-Ray diffraction and Mossbauer spectroscopy were used to study the end products of oxidation, among which a nickelous-ferric [4/(P + 1)]Ni(OH)(2) . [(3P - 1)/(P + 1)]FeOOH . Fe(OH)(2)Cl . nH(2)O hydroxychloride is obtained when P greater than or equal to 1/3.
