UNDERSTANDING THE DIVERSITY OF TRICHLOROETHENE CO-OXIDATIONS

摘要
Trichloroethene (TCE) co-oxidation by bacteria has potential for application in bioremediation schemes. In recent years, therefore, considerable effort has gone into understanding the diversity of TCE co-oxidations. The past year has witnessed progress in efforts to understand these co-oxidations at the enzymatic, physiological and genetic levels, as well as the systems involved. A new area of exploration-the genetic engineering of bacterial strains with altered TCE-degradation capabilities-has grown out of these studies. Recent reports reveal the full scope of potential in this rapidly developing area.
