IS THE CONCEPT OF BORON ICOSAHEDRA IN BORON-CARBIDE CORRECT

摘要
The crystal structure of boron carbide B13C2 is generally depicted as consisting of B12 icosahedra connected by C-B-C chains. In this paper we propose a different description of the same structure based on an infinite network structure with some associations to the diamond lattice. This new concept is based on the observed differences in the strengths of the bonds in the structure and is corroborated by the measured deformation densities calculated from precise X-ray diffraction experiments. © 1979.
