摘要
This paper presents a study of the development of a surface-roughness model for turning 140 BHN steel, at a very high cutting speed of 500 m/min, using tipped carbide tools. The mathematical prediction models for surface-roughness have been developed in terms of cutting speed, feed and nose radius of the cutting tool. The effect of these cutting parameters on the surface roughness has been investigated using response surface methodology. Surface roughness contours were obtained utilizing Fortran language and a VAX 11/730 computer. These contours are used for determining the optimum cutting conditions for a required surface roughness.
