摘要
Third Harmonic Generation (THG) in trans-beta-carotene/polystyrene films is reported for fundamental wavelengths ranging from 0.95-mu-m to 1.9-mu-m. The results are analyzed with a four electronic level model which includes vibrational sub-structure. Our analysis indicates that the complex third order susceptibility deduced from the THG Maker fringe is strongly dominated by the presence of a two-photon state (an A(g) state) located above the first one-photon allowed B(u) state. Our results show little evidence for the presence of the 2A(g) state located at lower energy than the 1 B(u). state. Two-photon absorption at 1.13-mu-m and 0.77-mu-m confirms our THG results.
