Investigated stability of relationships and time lags in measurement using information collected at 2 points in time about organizational factors and the performance of 151 engineers. 4 measures of performance were correlated with 6 organizational factors: involvement in work, influence on work goals, colleague contact, diversity of work activities, salary, and number of subordinates. On the basis of low but statistically significant associations, it was found that correlations between organizational factors and performance were generally stable with a 6-yr interval between measurements. Relationships were consistently stronger when performance was measured before the organizational factor. It was concluded that changes in organizational factors which follow performance should be considered in research design, organizational theory, and, especially, in interpretations of simultaneous associations between organizational factors and performance.
