FORMATION OF A VELOCITY SHEAR-LAYER IN CONFINED PLASMAS

摘要
It is shown, by allowing for finite momentum loss, that an E X E velocity shear layer forms naturally from the radial potential profile created at the boundary or scrape-off region of a confined plasma where magnetic field lines Come into contact with material surfaces. The loss of perpendicular momentum governs the structure of the velocity shear in the scrape-off layer via the generation of a radial current that modifies the potential profile. Increase in velocity shear is coupled to improvement in momentum confinement.
