Seventeen patients with maxillary sinusitis have been treated with phenoxymethyl-penicillin-acid, penicillin V, orally in a dose of 1.6 g per 24 h. In ten of the patients concentrations of 0.2-1.2 μg penicillin V per ml could be demonstrated in the secretions. In seven of the patients no penicillin activity could be demonstrated. It was concluded that penicillin V passes into the sinus secretions of many patients. Under severe inflammatory conditions, however, the concentration of penicillin V is not demonstrable with the method used. © 1969 S. Karger AG, Basel.
