A STUDY OF CHARGE-TRANSFER AT AN ILLUMINATED P-INP ELECTRODE IN AQUEOUS-SOLUTION

Cyclic voltammetry and differential cpacitance measurements have been applied to the study of methyl viologen charge transfer at an illuminated p-InP/solution interface. The open-circuit potential was observed to be linearly proportional to the logarithm of light intensity. The photopotential, measured by comparing the cathodic peaks of MV**2** plus /MV** plus , at Pt and an illuminated p-InP electrode, is a function of light intensity and solution concentration, but not of wavelength. The quasi-Fermi level concept appears to explain the experimental results best.
