Bi-containing crystals of YbAl3(BO3)4 and ErAl3(BO3)4 with the huntite structure doped with Si4+, Ge4+ and transition metal cations Ti4+, V5+, Cr3+ and Mn4+ have been grown by spontaneous crystallization from fluxes based on Bi2O3-B2O3-Li2O. The Li+ cation was used for charge compensation of the crystal structure. The concentration of crystal-formed oxides was 43-96 mol% and the achieved productivity (crystal/melt weight ratio) was about 77 wt%. The dependences of crystal stability and chemical properties of prepared materials on crystal composition were discussed.
