RNA ACCUMULATION IN RELATION TO DNA AND PROTEIN ACCUMULATION IN JERUSALEM ARTICHOKE CALLUS CULTURES

RNA accumulation during the synchronous early development of Jerusalem artichoke callus cultures follows a pattern of three stepwise increases in RNA per dividing cell during the first division cycle. Little accumulation occurs in non-dividing cells during this time. These data are compared with data available for DNA replication, which occurs only in dividing cells, and for protein accumulation which follows a similar pattern to that of RNA accumulation in dividing cells, both in dividing cells and in some non-dividing cells. © 1969 OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS.
