By a specific histochemical method for the detection of catecholamines, a large number of adrenergic fibres was observed in the rabbit foliate and circumvallate papillae. Adrenergic fibres run in the corion, in close relationship with the basal pole of taste buds. These observations support the hypothesis of a sympathetic control over gustatory input. © 1969.
