OXYGEN-DEFICIENCY-BASED ANOMALIES IN THE ULTRASONIC PROPERTIES OF BI(2212) CRYSTALS

Ultrasonic velocity and internal friction measurements on a single crystal of Bi2Sr2Ca1CU2Ox grown by directional solidification have shown a number of anomalous features and instabilities which correlate well with annealing treatments designed to change the oxygen concentration. It is suggested that a first-order Phase change occurs close to 150 K in crystals annealed under vacuum conditions.
