摘要
We last described our system in detail at the third AMS conference in 1984. Since then numerous technical improvements have been made which have enhanced the stability of the system, and produced larger and sharper beams; the C-14 beam is now transmitted with 90-100% efficiency from the exit aperture of the inflection magnet to the C-14 detector, and the maximum counting rate for modern carbon has been increased from approximately 50/s to approximately 140/s. Improved sample preparation procedures have reduced our typical carbon samples from approximately 2 mg to approximately 0.4 mg.
