PROBING THE NUCLEONS TRANSVERSITY DISTRIBUTION IN POLARIZED PP, P(P)BAR, AND PI-P COLLISIONS

摘要
We study the possibility of measuring the nucleon's transversity distribution h1(x) through transversely polarized hadron-hadron collisions. We present the double-spin asymmetries of the underlying parton subprocesses for Drell-Yan lepton-pair, direct-photon, heavy-quark, and other particles production. Then we estimate the associated observable asymmetries using a simple model for the transversity distribution. We also discuss a twist-three pi-p scattering process which is sensitive to h1(x).
