摘要
This paper extends the analytical technique for predicting reverse osmosis performance (ion separation and product rate) of cellulose acetate membranes of different surface porosities for different aqueous feed solutions containing two electrolytic solutes involving a univalent cation, a divalent cation, and two univalent anions or a common univalent anion. This prediction technique needs only a single set of experimental data on membrane specifications given in terms of pure water premeability constant A and solute transport parameter DAM/Kσ for sodium chloride (reference solute) and the applicable mass transfer coefficient for the chosen feed solution system. The validity of the prediction technique has been experimentally verified from reverse osmosis data for the feed solution systems NaBr-MgCI2-H2O, NaCI-Ca(NO3)2-H2O and NaCI-MgCI2-H2O. © 1979, American Chemical Society.
