Methods are discussed for introducing a spatial amplitude carrier in an object distribution by either absorption, addition, or redistribution of light. Transfer characteristics of carrier-frequency photography can be influenced by carrier manipulation and variation of recording parameters, such as by using various linear or nonlinear regions of the transfer characteristic of a recording process, either for modulated or unmodulated carriers. Also shown is how images belonging to different diffracted orders in the reconstruction process can be given different image characteristics.
