FLUIDIZED beds can operate as electrodes1,2, and we have investigated the possibility of fluidized anodes and cathodes for fuel cells. Gaseous react ants are unsuitable for fluidized electrodes because the electrodes flood too easily. Dissolved reactants present no such problem and from the many suitable for fuel cell applications we chose methanol and hydrogen peroxide. In alkaline electrolytes they are oxidized and reduced according to the following simplified reaction mechanisms © 1969 Nature Publishing Group.
