摘要
Results of submillimetre observations of the very high-redshift IRAS galaxy 10214 + 4724 are presented. Significant detections at 800-mu-m (30 +/- 7 mJy, 4.3-sigma) and 450-mu-m (365 +/- 100 mJy, 3.6-sigma) have been achieved. We compare the data to the existing models of this galaxy and find that both the extreme primeval galaxy model and the dust-embedded Seyfert model are excluded. We conclude that the galaxy is likely to be undergoing an extreme starburst, but whether this represents the formation of a significant fraction of the stars is unclear.
