ASSESSMENT OF SOME DYNAMIC PARAMETERS FOR THE ULTRASONIC MACHINING PROCESS

摘要
The mechanisms underlying the microchipping action in ultrasonic machining are identified to be mainly localized hammering and free impact by abrasive grains in the slurry. These effects are characterized to occur in random fashion with respect to their strength and location on the work surface. A special design of ultrasonic tool is presented to facilitate the observation of the hammering and striking modes of material removal in high speed steel and glass materials. Computer-aided sampling, modelling and analysis of the surface roughness are used to provide some quantitative assessment of the relative role of the underlying mechanisms of material removal. Further analysis is presented based on a random surface model with tool wear as feedback element. © 1990.
